The book presents for the first time the origins and early development of the history of the new city of Villarosa (1731-1825), Sicilian town of the interior of the island, who was born and developed in the context of reality half of Sicily between 700 and 800 first determining a specific socio-political situation across the Bourbon era of the French Revolution, the age of monarchy, and administrative reforms institutions.
Luigi Di Franco identifies as the original character of this reality, the power barons, religious and devotional practices of civilization, that in the second 700 are the basis of local collective identity and develop a dynamic of feudalism and the emancipation of moral freedom from the material, to be followed in the early decades of the nineteenth century the rise of the bourgeois elite and promotion of all aspects of civic life. The historical essay is divided into three parts. The first 'historic environment' fits the area and analyzes the three convergent action, in building and populating the new city of Villarosa, the noble house of Notarbartolo, and the hierarchy of immigrant families. The second 'popular religious power and identity', using anthropological interpretation to define the identity of the people, identify the processes of social growth and describes the failure of the plot and the emergence of a new feudal state in need of local communities. The third 'from feudal to bourgeois protagonists' outlines the affirmation of bourgeois protagonists involved in the local society to shape its development between economy and politics in the early nineteenth century.
The book presents a case history example of analysis of the mechanisms that transform a temporary reality and fragmented not only in a supportive and stable community but in a new town, where the various microcosm of life express the transition to the new regime dall'ancien leading role of the middle class typical of the early nineteenth century. A socio-political territory is never neutral place, so that the economic processes that the various aspects of socio-anthropological make possible the representation of the history of a society. The volume of historiographical narrative symbolically through the spaces, signs and memories of a community in place between the lights of baronial power and the bourgeois protagonist affirms the centrality of the economic and social history in the ongoing restructure of each community civil.
* Luigi Di Franco was born and lives in Villarosa, in the province of Enna. He graduated in Philosophy in Teaching in Religious Studies and Modern History, is Professor of Philosophy, History and Human Sciences at the state high school. He is a member of the International Academy of Mycenae and the Italian Philosophical Society, and PhD in Contemporary History at the University of Catania Faculty of Political Science.
